Creating A Website

Sarah Connolly Website Design Omagh See See

So you've decided to start a website for your business or personal adventure. Below are a few things to think about before you start the process, including considerations about the content you want and some of the prices to consider beyond the design phase of your website.

Domain Name

This is the name of your website. The bit after the www. part. For example the domain for my website is www.seesee.ie , so if someone types that into their web browser they are directed to my website.

The end of a domain name can be formed in different ways. The most common are .com and .co.uk (depending on what country you're in). Other examples include .net, .org, .online to name a few. Most people will represent themselves with .com. I decided to go for a .ie domain which is an Irish domain ending. There is a lot of choice out there, you just need to do your research!

A domain name will cost approximately £10-25 per year. There are some other options when you combine your domain and hosting. And what is hosting, you ask...

Hosting

Once you’ve picked your domain name you’re half way to getting your website online. In order to do this you need a web host, which is a company that enables you to put your web pages online for the world to view. When an internet user types your domain name into a browser, your web host then connects that user to their server and your website will load. This is known as hosting your website.

One thing to note is that you will always have either a yearly or monthly payment when starting a website. It’s not a one off cost.

There are a lot of options when it comes to hosting. This is where we would have an in-depth discussion about what would best suit your specific needs. Some of the plans include a domain name when purchased on a yearly plan. You will receive 20% off your first year of hosting through See See when paying for a yearly plan.

A key consideration when it comes to creating a website is the use of high-quality photographs. Professional photographs can take your website from good to amazing.

Social Media

Another great way to promote your business or spread news of your personal adventure is by having social media accounts to share content. Having a link to these outlets on your website will grow your followers and promote interaction with potential clients

You can also set up a feed from some of your accounts - like the Instagram feed below - to keep people updated on what you are up to.

Regular Upkeep

Regularly updating your website is very important. Search engines like Google or Bing really favour a website which is updated regularly and can push you to the top of search results when internet users look for something which could be linked with your business or adventure.
